The Executive Council meets quarterly at the Manchester Historical Society's Old Manchester Museum located at 126 Cedar Street in Manchester, CT. Several of our members as well as other local residents all help maintain the site by keeping up its appearance. We also have private tours for various groups, clubs and organizations. We participate in the Manchester Heritage Day festivities each year and are constantly promoting the educational and historic significance of this important site by having several of our members speak at presentations as well as in the classrooms of the local middle schools. These members who have spoken in various public forums include Thelma Woodbridge, Tom Duff, John Spaulding and Rick Ciralli
We are currently involved in many scheduled excavations at our site involving state archaeologist Dr. Nick Bellantoni who is located at the Connecticut Archaeology Center at the University of Connecticut. We have coordinated numerous organized digs involving local middle school students from Manchester and the loyal volunteers from FOSA (Friends of the Office of State Archaeology.) Numerous important artifacts have been excavated using professional methods and procedures, logging the location and depth of the soil in the designated quads. These shards are then transported to the Old Manchester Museum where we have scheduled meetings to sort, clean and log them with the pertinent data. They will be displayed at the Old Manchester Museum in the very near future. The colors of some of the glass shards are simply breathtaking! We are pleased to feature images of some of the more important shards on this site under PITKIN NEWS. There are exciting and educational times ahead at the Pitkin Glass Works historic site. If you would like to assist us in one of our scheduled shard meetings , please contact us directly through the Old Manchester Museum at 860-647-9742
